Brief and to the point about FeriePenge:

Feriepenge is a.k.a. vacation pay, which every person working legally in Denmark is entitled to. An employee receives approximately 2.08 days of vacation for each month worked. On an annual basis, this makes a total of 25 days, or 5 weeks of vacation.

How much FeriePenge am I due?

FeriePenge is charged in the amount of 12,5% On gross pay (total taxable income) we are talking here about people employed at an hourly rate. The current amount of accumulated vacation funds is best checked on the last pay slip (Danish Lønseddel). For example, in the popular billing system “Danlon” the amount to be paid out can be found in the first lower table on the left under “Nettoferiepenge til gode efter 1. maj 2020 “.

Reconciliation of vacation leave

If you are in an employment relationship the date of your vacation must be agreed with your employer as early as possible, who will accommodate your wishes if possible. If you have school-age children, your employer must pay special attention if you want to spend your vacation during the summer school vacations. Remember that the employer ultimately decides.

If your employer has a say in when you can take your vacation, you need to know at least three months before the start of your so-called main vacation (Denmark's HovedFerie 3 weeks from May 1 to September 30) and at least a month before the rest of your vacation begins.

An exception to the timing of notifications to the employer as well as the rescheduling of your leave, for example, is a significant and unforeseen circumstance in the company's operations.

Some companies also have fixed summer vacation dates during which the workplace is closed.

Those who are on unemployment benefits or dagpenge are also entitled to leave.
