🧾What is S1?
The S1 is a document that confirms that you are insured in Denmark and that you can also receive public health care in Your home country- on the same terms as a person insured in Your home country.
S1 gives you:
🩺 the right to free treatment in Your home country,
🏡 The possibility of covering family members living Your home country.
In practice, this means that you have the status of „green” - That is, active insurance under the National Health Service.
👩⚕️ Who can get an S1 document?
If you are formally registered in Denmark (yellow card to Danish address) and use Danish health care however your vital center (e.g., immediate family i.e., spouse, children) are still in Your home country, you can apply for an S1 form. The document is issued for up to 2 years.
In other situations, applying for an S1 document is handled by Udbetaling Denmark on a case-by-case basis.
NOTES: If you have a yellow card to a Your home country address,Udbetaling Danmark automatically issues and sends an S1 form to the National Health office in Your home country.
🇩🇰🤝🇵🇱 Remember! EHIC blue card insurance and S1 form are two different things.
The EHIC card only provides necessary medical care during a temporary stay abroad.
However, it does not give you the right to receive ongoing treatment in Your home country, to enroll in a family doctor, or to receive scheduled treatments, appointments, tests or therapies.
